Alan is a distinguished reporter who interviewed Dib in the The Sad, Sad Tale of Chickenfoot, and shortly thereafter interviewed the elusive Chickenfoot himself.

A computer simulation of Alan also appears as one of the people in Zim's hologram simulation program in Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom. Here, he first interviewed the teenaged Dib at Lake Spooky, and then interviewed him yet again several decades later, on his talk show. In the latter encounter, "Alan" got an elderly Dib to confess to throwing the muffin at Zim's head in Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom, upon which his own head and those of the audience were all replaced by Zim's cackling visage, revealing "Alan" and the audience to be holograms.

• Alan's first line is voiced in a deep, comical American tone, but in his interview with "Old Dib", he has a soft, British accent.
